White tube sock
Stuffing
String
Scissors
Permanent marker

What you’ll do:
Stuff the toe of the sock until you have a rough sphere. Cut a small piece of string and tie it tightly around the base of the sphere. This will be the head of the snowman.

Draw a smiling face on your snowman’s head with the permanent marker.

Spitfire Girl DIY: Origami Gift Box

It’s gift giving time! Why not make some little handmade boxes for all the gifts you buy from Spitfire Girl (wink wink!) We used the decorative paper wrap sheets we carry in our stores to make this DIY box. Below are the steps for you to make your own.

Start with a wrap sheet, which you can pick up at either of our LA stores on Melrose, or in Los Feliz.

Spitfire Girl DIY: Make a Botanical Centerpiece

The holidays are right around the corner, and that means one thing: pie, and entertaining (okay, maybe two things). We love a good party, especially one with a theme. But who says that theme needs to be gourd- or tinsel-centric? This year, shake up your festivities with a whimsical, nature-inspired spin on the traditional table centerpiece. It’s also super easy to assemble, which means more time to celebrate!

What you’ll need:
- Small branches. Try rosemary, eucalyptus, or pine boughs for some extra yummy smells, or opt for simple birch twigs for a minimalist look.
- String or baker’s twine
- Scissors
- Candle (our signature soy-blend candles are perfect!)
- Dishware with botanical or animal patterns (we’re currently crushing on these pieces from Laura Zindel)

What you’ll do:
- Shape the branches into a circular wreath, making sure the wreath is large enough to fit around your candle.
- Tie the ends of the branches together with small pieces of string. You can double-knot the string, or make tiny bows to amp up the cute factor.

- Place the candle in the middle of the wreath to make your pretty centerpiece.
- Set the table with dishes covered with flora and fauna.
- Toast your guests in your own tabletop botanical paradise!

Spitfire Girl DIY: Make Your Own Terrarium

We here at the Spitfire Girl headquarters love DIY kits, and one of our absolute favorites is our Make Your Own Terrarium Kit.
This kit comes with pretty much everything you need to create the perfect little mason jar of happiness for your office desk or your home!

Here’s our very own step by step guide to make your terrarium look stellar!

Make Your Own Terrarium Kit DIY step-by-step

You can purchase a Make Your Own Terrarium Kit from our website or either of our retail locations.

Open up the box and lay out all of your materials – everything will be packaged neatly in the jar. A bag of dirt, some moss with a mushroom and a flower, a bag of rocks, an instruction leaflet and a terrarium friend (in this case a dinosaur) all come packed in the mason jar. You will need to grab some scissors and your own plant – a succulent clipping works great for this.

Next pour your dirt and rocks into the bottom of the mason jar to create the perfect base.

Then grab your scissors and place the moss in the jar. Once your moss is where you like it use the scissors to grab the head of the mushroom and place the mushroom firmly in the moss.

After you’ve securely placed your mushroom, place your decorative flower.

At this point your little terrarium scene should be coming right along. Use your scissors to put your terrarium friend right where you want ‘em! (No dinosaurs were hurt in the making of this terrarium.)

Next, grab your little succulent clipping and place it gently in the jar.

We wanted to add a little something extra to our terrarium so we created a “BEWARE” sign out of some scrap cardboard.

Spitfire Girl DIY: Make Your Own Box Card

Here at the Spitfire Girl Headquarters one of our most favorite days of the week is when we get to spend some time doing actual crafts! One of our most favorite crafts is making the Spitfire Girl Box Card – which coincidentally was one our very first products.
The Spitfire Girl herself, Kristin Schroder, has put together this step by step on creating the perfect box card.

Spitfire Girl Box Card DIY
1. Gather the necessary materials!
You will need a glue gun, some white glue, spray adhesive, scissors, a decorative figurine (we used a cat) some moss, a spoonful of glitter, a piece of felt, one photo that you can cut for a background (we printed one from the internet) and one photo you can cut to use for the top of the box ( we also printed ours – the little gnome- from the internet.)

2. Cut the printed out background photo so that it matches the dimensions of the box and use your hot glue gun to secure the photo the the back of the box.

3. Take your piece of felt and cut in a half circle. Use your white glue to dab a few spots on the bottom of the felt and then secure the felt piece into the box.

4. Next take your figurine and dab some hot glue onto the base of the figurine ( we hot glued up this cat’s little paws) and on the back of the figurine so that it sticks securely to the back of the box up against the decorative background photo.

5. Take your hot glue gun and dab a bit on top of the felt, next to the figurine where you would like your moss to go. Place your moss on the dab gently with your finger but be careful not to burn yourself!

6. After your moss and figurine are securely in place, take your spoonful of glitter and add some sparkle by loosely spooning some glitter into the back of the box.

7. Grab your print out for the top of the box and make sure you’ve cut it to match the shape of your box top. Coat the back with spray adhesive and press it on the top of the box lid.
