Awesome person of the day: Walter Potter

Walter Potter was an English taxidermist known for his Victorian whimsy rather than his taxidermy skills. He never set out to become a taxidermist, but grew into one to preserve the world as he wanted to see it. At 19, Potter’s pet canary died and thus began his life’s work of preserving animals. He did not simply stuff deceased animals, he created some of the most elaborate and large scale taxidermy dioramas to date. In fact, if it were just for his taxidermy skills, his animals may not be worth much; lucky for us, his dioramas are fanciful, quirky, bizarre and entirely unique.

Unfortunately his work belongs to private collectors now but you can find photos of his scenes like these online:
